Aniplex announced the anime project at the game’s 5th-anniversary live stream event.

The popular RPG game NeiR:Automata is getting an anime adaptation. Aniplex officially announced this on the game’s 5th-anniversary stream that happened on Wednesday. An official Twitter account for the anime adaptation was also launched.
NieR: Automata was released on February 23, 2017, in Japan for the PlayStation 4, followed by North America and Europe a month after. The game was also released for the PC via Steam in March 2017 and on Xbox One in June 2018.
The original NieR game, a spin-off of the Drakengard series, was first developed by the now-defunct Japanese game developer Cavia in 2010. Square Enix released two versions of the game titled Nier Gestalt and NieR Replicant for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, respectively. Other games in the franchise include the remastered edition of Replicant titled NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… and the smartphone game NieR Re[in]carnation.
NieR:Automata follows the story of androids 2B, 9S, and A2 and their battle to reclaim the machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines.
